Freedom Day is observed in South Africa as a public holiday which is celebrated on 27th of April annually. It celebrates freedom and honors first post-apartheid elections which were held on that day in the year 1994.
Those elections held were the first non-racial national elections where everyone of voting age of over 18 of any race group, including foreign residents were also allowed to vote.
Freedom day is a part of the 12 public holidays celebrated, determined by Publi Holidays Act.
